How I grocery shop

Before I leave:

  • Check out the pantry before I leave. What do or don’t I have? What do I want?
  • Do a quick clean-out before leaving. Empty out all bad tuber ware containers and expired food.
  • Prep storage containers for produce. It keeps the products fresher for longer.
  • Look at Pinterest and cookbooks for recipe inspiration. Food is a chance to be creative.
  • Eat a small snack or meal. I try not to shop hungry!

My must-haves:

Vegetables and Fruit

  • Onion and garlic
  • Salad supplies, kale, greens
  • snap and sugar peas
  • apples or strawberries
  • avocado
  • banana
  • frozen fruits

Meat

  • Fish
  • Chicken
  • Chicken sausage or ground turkey
  • (In a blue moon) Pork or beef

Dairy and refrigerator staples

  • Yogurt (Greek)
  • Oat and Reg. Milks
  • Eggs
  • Butter
  • One kind of cheese

Pantry Staples

  • Snack/ Breakfast bars
  • Beans (black, pinto, white)
  • Pasta
  • Peanut butter
  • Shelf-stable oat and almond milk
  • Snacks are always important

I always grab a couple of quick meals from the frozen sections! Sometimes cooking is too much of an emotional toll.

I want to create healthy meals that aren’t restricting, are cost-effective and are full of balance & nutrients. Food makes me happy and I want to keep it this way. Practicing balance in grocery shopping is the best way to integrate everything I desire into my lifestyle!
